Tinago Falls Travel Tips for First-Timers

Some visitors taking a photo near Tinago falls.

Tinago Falls called, and we answered.

This horsetail waterfall is one of a kind of all the Biliran waterfalls we’ve dipped into.

Sure, Ulan-Ulan Falls and Bagongbong Falls are legendary, but Tinago Falls holds a special kind of lure.

And guess what? Unlike some “hidden” gems, this one’s actually accessible (hurray!).

Juicy Bits

  • Tinago Falls is located on Sitio Tinago, Brgy. Cabibihan, Caibiran, Biliran.
  • The main entrance to the falls is accessible via concrete roads.
  • Tinago Falls is a great place to enjoy picnics with friends and family.
  • There are nearby attractions like Little Baguio of Biliran, Mainit Hot Spring, and Kinaraha Falls.

Why is it called Tinago Falls?

Tinago Falls literally translates to “Hidden” Falls in the local dialect.

For the uninitiated, the readily accessible path to Tinago Falls could raise doubts about its hidden nature wrapping to its name.

But going back years ago, this waterfall is actually nestled under dense forest.

You’ll realize it upon going there. The concrete road guides you deeper into the mountains, unveiling the true hiddenness of the falls.

Hidden, but not so secret?

Tinago Falls, located in Brgy. Cabibihan, Caibiran, is a treasure waiting to be uncovered.

Despite its name, it has become one of the most popular natural attractions in the province.

The allure of its beauty is no secret anymore, drawing visitors from far and wide to experience its charm.

We even met, Paul, a guy from Czech Republic enjoying the its spectacle.

What to Expect in Tinago Falls?

Like any waterfall, anticipate boulders, rocky walls, lush vegetation, plunge basin, and visitors.

But Tinago Falls has a twist. It’s the only waterfall where I saw people wall climbing and jumping back after reaching the top!

The spot is very open and spacious with plenty of room to walk, jump, waddle, and hang out.

Even if you are 100 meters away from the waterfall, you can still have a nice view of it while having your meal.

The plunge is not the only attraction there. The waters cascade forming a river that drops to a huge basin where people can jump.

Arrival

If you stay alert enough, you’ll get very excited seeing a glimpse of this falls a few kilometers away from the road.

Tinago Falls has a spacious parking area managed by a guard. You must first pay an entrance fee of of P20.00 for adults, and P10.00 for kids.

Before going down the concrete stairs leading to the falls, you also must write your name and some info on the logbook.

Facilities

Of all the waterfalls we traveled, Tinago Falls has more facilities built closer to the falls.

Grilling Area – If you’re fond of meat kissing the sizzling charcoal, a grilling area is just nearby for you to whip up a feast fit for a king (or queen)!

Two Huge Cottages – I’m not sure if they are cottages or shelters since there are no tables or chairs displayed. But maybe these are available upon request.

Clean Comfort Rooms – This is a plus since you don’t have to make a wild guess on where and how to respond if ever nature calls big time!

Changing Rooms – Another plus if you want to stay dry during travel. The windchill this season is really something!
