We initially saw this place from a friend’s post on his Facebook and got curious. After a few weeks, we visited the resort to see if the images really do justice to the actual scenery.

We were not disappointed.

How to get to Handurawan Rocky Beach Resort

Handurawan Rocky Beach Resort is located in Tabunan North, Kawayan, Biliran.

The exact place can be concealed due to its humble facade so it’s best to monitor your trip using Google Maps to avoid overshooting.

This resort is located along the national highway, so accessibility isn’t a problem. You can get here using any vehicle and there isn’t much steep terrain in reaching this place.

If traveling from anywhere outside the province, follow one of our key routes on how to get to Biliran Island and you should be able to get a good view of Handurawan upon seeing the map.

Resort Features and Amenities

Viewed from across the street, Handurawan Rocky Beach Resort may look less impressive from the outside.

But don’t let its humble exterior deter you.

We were blown away as the descending stairs transported us into an entirely unexpected discovery.

Once inside, any preconceived notions dissolve into awe as your senses absorb the luxurious native-inspired designs.

Upper Floor

You will find your feet taking you to the Upper Floor, where a makeshift minibar and a TV are installed. This part is also the main restaurant.

The wooden floors gave me a sense of 90s nostalgia as the structures here are crafted from wood, a rarity in today’s modern architecture.

If the time is perfect, you can make yourself comfy by sitting in a wicker hammock while watching the burning sunset.

Lower Floor

If you’re raring to take a dive, the lower floor gets you closer to the sea.

It was also in this area where we had a nice chat with one of their stewards, which helped us get to know more about Handurawan Rocky Beach Resort.

On both sides are enormous rocks that introduce a distinctive element and a unique touch to the coastal landscapes.

There was a karaoke and a huge lechon here the first time we visited as some folks celebrated their birthdays.

Cottages

One interesting fact about this place is that, though the entrance may give a sense of modesty, it actually packs a punch.

There are four wooden cottages scattered around Handurawan aside from the main floors.

As long as they are not rented out, you can sit at them, especially if the main floors are full.

Karaoke

No Filipino resort is complete without the lively inclusion of karaoke, and at Handurawan, this tradition fits seamlessly with the breathtaking views that surround it. 

If you’re the romantic type, serenading your crush while the sun slowly sets would probably get you a yes from her.

There aren’t any resorts or residences nearby, so rest assured you can sing your heart out knowing you’re not disturbing anyone.

Student Vibes and Out-of-Town Guests

Usual Visitors

Handurawan Rocky Beach Resort attracts visitors from neighboring towns like Naval and Culaba.

They frequently rent the spacious lower floor for family milestones like birthdays and anniversaries.

Catering to these out-of-town guests, the resort offers short orders of local delicacies, snacks, and drinks.

Best-selling dishes are pancit, sisig, chop suey, and other Filipino foods. Though guests can bring their own meals, most prefer to order here.

For us, we ordered halo-halo even after getting soaked by rain—typical Filipinos.

Students’ Haven

Since this place is very close to Tabunan, many students gather here for photo ops, research using their Piso wifi, or simply enjoy and relax with the view.

Lately, it has become famous for its projects and assignments requiring videos of scenic environments and acting scenes.

Planning Your Visit to Handurawan

The number of guests arriving at Handurawan Rocky Beach Resort tends to vary.

Sometimes, the whole Tuesday could be fully booked, and there would only be a few visitors the next day.

Peak seasons usually happen in summer and holidays since it’s the only time students and their families can bond.

If you plan on renting out one of the two floors, contact the owner using their Facebook Page to book a reservation.

Opening Dates and Time

Handurawan Rocky Beach Resort operates Tuesday through Sunday from 9 am to 8 pm.

Cut off for the last entrance and orders is at 7:30 pm

The resort also opens on holidays, even on Mondays, when student groups and out-of-town guests tend to flock to the scenic seaside locale.

Entrance Fee

Entrance fees for adults (ages 13 and above) is Php 20.00, and for kids is Php 10.00 (ages 12 and below). This fee is good for the whole day!

Resort Camping

Lately, Handurawan Rocky Beach Resort has received requests from some visitors if the site is open for overnight camping.

This is actually a great idea that may set another trend.

Instead of waking up on top of a mountain like in ASEMCO Hilltop Resort, you’ll be greeted by the gentle waves of the nearby sea. 

The calm waters and the turquoise sea viewed from the resort can be breathtaking!

If overnight camping is your thing, try calling or sending a message to the owner on their Facebook Page.

They can always arrange something provided enough preparation is made.

Rent Rates

The Lower Floor is typically set for renting and only costs Php 1,500.00.

Though the upper floor is initially designed as the main restaurant, you can always ask the owner about the possibility of renting it as well.

Instagrammable Settings

With its rocky outcrops and crystal blue waters, Handurawan provides endless Instagram-worthy backdrops.

The most notable and highly sought-after setting here happens during sunset when the seaside location provides front-row seats to nature’s spectacle.

You can watch it while sitting in one of the wicker hammocks or on the huge boulders. You can even take a swim while witnessing the sun dip into the horizon!
