Catching the Towering Drips of Casiawan Falls in Biliran

Stunning view of Casiawan Falls.

After performing the “meditation under a waterfall” ritual in Kasabangan, we swiftly hit the road to Casiawan Falls.

We had already bathed in five waterfalls on the island, so we initially thought that Casiawan was like any other waterfall we’d been through.

We were wrong, and I loved it!

Two hundred meters away in the descending path, we suddenly saw a tiny speck of white water dropping from the side of a cliff.

The leaves and vegetation covering our view even added to our excitement!

So let’s dive in and not waste time on this destination that never disappointed us.

Juicy Bits

  • Casiawan Falls is located Barangay Casiawan, Cabucgayan, Biliran.
  • The falls is accessible via concrete roads just in front of Casiawan Elementary School.
  • Aside from the plunge pool, the waters cascade to a large basin perfect for swimming.
  • You can see and bathe under the bright rainbow arc forming along the crashing waters.

What to expect in Casiawan Falls?

Like any waterfall, expect to encounter boulders, rocky walls, trees, a plunge basin, and other visitors enjoying the drips.

The gushing waters do not hit directly on the water but to a huge boulder creating fine mists. This makes the plunge pool accessible to many people.

Standing at an impressive height of 40 feet, Casiawan Falls is a breathtaking sight tucked away between towering mahogany trees.

Heading to Casiawan Falls

Accessible via a narrow, steep trail from the mountain barangay road, it is directly opposite the Casiawan Elementary School.

Upon arrival, an entrance fee is collected by an attendant. The parking space is limited, especially for cars and other 4-wheeled vehicles.

You can ask the attendant for other parking areas if your vehicle won’t fit.

There are no railings along the stairs, so it’s prudent to exercise caution when descending, as the stairs can be slippery, especially on rainy days.

As you near the falls, you’ll notice a tranquil atmosphere with fewer crowds. You will also find amenities such as rental cottages and facilities for changing and showering.

However, it’s evident that maintenance is lacking, detracting somewhat from the overall experience.

Seeing Casiawan Falls for the First Time

Once at the falls, you’ll likely encounter people swimming and enjoying a picnic nearby.

The falls itself is truly awe-inspiring, towering, and majestic. Below it, the water cascades to a large pool basin near the entrance.

Casiawan Falls stands out as the tallest among the falls I’ve visited, although some claim that Saob Falls near Kasabangan Falls holds that title.

What to do in Casiawan Falls?

While Casiawan Falls boasts natural beauty, it’s important to note that it’s not yet fully developed and might lack the extensive maintenance seen in other tourist destinations.

Activities:

  • Take a refreshing dip: Immerse yourself in the cool, cascading waters of Casiawan Falls.
  • Catch the drip: Though the falls is quite high, the falling waters won’t hurt your skin due to a large boulder taking the hit.
  • Unwind with a picnic: Pack your favorite food and enjoy a delightful meal surrounded by nature with friends and family.
  • Capture the moment: Snap stunning photos of the captivating Casiawan Falls.
  • Rock jumping: Some tourists do this near the large pool basin for their adrenaline rush. Make sure that the water is deep enough and free of obstacles.
  • Tarzan swing: There is a vine nearby where some teens perform the Tarzan swing.
  • Cook on the rocks: We discovered some people cook bananas and fish on the side away from the splash.

Caution:

It takes an extra 100 meters from the first cottage to go to the waterfalls the path can be narrow and rocky.

Like the descending entrance road, there are no railings you can hold on to unlike in Ulan-Ulan Falls.

In the plunge basin, the rocks around it are also slippery, perhaps the most slippery of all the places we visited.

There are also more rocks of varying sizes under the shallow pool basin so be careful when swimming.

Rates:

Entrance Fee (Adults): Php. 25 per person

Entrance Fee (Kids): Php. 20 per person
