Healing Warmth of Mainit Hot Spring: Soothing the First-Timer

Group of ladies chatting while bathing in Mainit Hot Spring.

Setting out on my first hot spring adventure in 32 years was incredibly exciting. So when the opportunity arose to visit Mainit Hot Spring in Caibiran, I couldn’t resist.

Due to its healing properties, people say it was a gift from a special deity called “Diwata” back when there weren’t many doctors around.

We came from the cold waters of Tinago Falls, and dipping here was thrilling.

We thought the waters were too hot, but as we carefully immersed our bodies, it melted all our worries away!

Key Takeaways

  • Accessible via concrete roads and requires a short walk to the pool
  • Kinaraha Falls is just 5 minutes away by motorcycle.
  • They have a cooking and grilling area if you want to cook food.
  • Nipa Hut Cottages are available for rent.

Mainit Hot Spring

Mainit Hot Spring is one of the famous spots in Barangay Villa Vicenta, Caibiran.

Its name is redundant since mainit also means “hot or warm” in English. Many people believe it has special healing powers.

Mainit Hot Spring has a man-made pool with comfy seats for visitors. The water is full of minerals and is said to help with many health issues.

Not only does this spring have warm water in the pool, but there is also a calm river flowing adjacent to it.

There’s even a small pool by the river where the water is hot enough to boil some eggs.

What to Expect

While known for its soothing warm waters, the surrounding cottages can be humbling.

The wooden cottages remind me of my childhood days, and the changing locker needs a fix.

Like every tourist attraction we visited, there was a steward nearby where you had to pay for your entrance and write your name on the attendance sheet.

We were also lucky that only a few of us were there since the pool was not as big. Furthermore, it’s designed for something other than diving since it’s only around four feet deep.

But you can find that perfect angle to create an infinity pool moment like ours.

This place is perfect for chilling and taking a pause on life’s stress and business.

Where does Hot Spring come from?

The hot spring gets its warmth from a nearby volcano called Mt. Suiro, even though it’s not active anymore.

This volcano’s underground activity keeps the water nice and warm.

The geothermal activity warms the ground surrounding the spring, and stagnant areas of the river exhibit significantly higher water temperatures.

Besides where they came from, hot springs like Mainit are famous for making people feel better.

The water has lots of minerals that are thought to help with different health problems like sore muscles, make you feel relaxed, and improve blood flow.
