We recently dipped into the cool waters of Bagongbong Falls like it was our private waterfall.

Who would’ve thought we could almost solo this place on a warm Saturday and a scheduled black-out on the whole island?

But we were there, and it was one of our best waterfall experiences!

I will share with you how we arrived at this place and give you a glimpse of the awesomeness of Bagongbong Falls.

Key Takeaways

  • Bagongbong Falls is located in Barangay Caucab, Almeria, Biliran.
  • There is a 15-20 minute hike from the parking area to the location of the falls.
  • Accessible via concrete roads.
  • Bagongbong Falls is not only about the waterfalls but also offers hiking and nature trails for nature enthusiasts.
  • Entrance is Free.

The enchanting beauty of Bagongbong Falls

Bagongbong Falls is an enchanting punchbowl waterfall that offers a mesmerizing sight.

What makes this waterfall apart is its secluded charm, remaining a less-traveled path for most wanderers.

Huge rocky cliffs surround the waterfall area, and you will see them looking like walls while approaching the falls.

It’s like some giant created a hole out of these huge rocks and let a river fall through it, creating what we know as Bagongbong Falls.

Things to bring to Bagongbong Falls

Here are some things you should bring:

  • Sufficient water supply to stay hydrated.
  • Snacks or meals to avoid hunger, as there are no stores near the falls.
  • Extra clothes
  • Sun protection items such as hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
  • Insect repellent to ward off unwanted pests.
  • Camera or cell phone to capture the beautiful scenery and special moments.
  • Sufficient cash for transportation and other expenses.

Bagongbong Falls location

Bagongbong Falls sometimes called Bagumbong Falls is located in Caucab, Almeria, Biliran. It’s not exactly in Brgy. Caucab, but it is 1.7 km. from Caucab proper.

Although the road was fully concrete, the terrain was on steep slopes with tight turns and winding paths, making driving difficult.

You will meet the end of the concrete road and walk towards the falls on foot for about 15 to 20 minutes.

How to get there from Naval Town Proper or anywhere in Biliran

Like going anywhere in the province, traveling to Bagongbong Falls is straightforward, even if you come from Naval.

  1. From Naval, head directly to Brgy. Lo-ok, which is a neighboring barangay of Almeria.
  2. You will pass through Bagongbong Bridge before reaching Almeria proper. The bridge derives its name from the falls that feed its waters.
  3. From Lo-ok, take a detour to Brgy. Caucab, and you should be on your way to the falls. Google Maps will take you there, or you can ask the locals, too.
  4. Follow the main concrete road until you reach the end of it, which is the Parking Area. And go on a hike for 15-20 minutes.
  5. There should be a trail on your right side facing the parking area. Follow the trail, and it will lead you to the Bagongbong Falls.
  6. The trail mostly leads downwards, and you will encounter a shelter or waiting shed made of concrete. You are now very close.
  7. Continue walking, and you should see a narrow concrete stair that leads downwards. You’re there!

Hike to Bagongbong Falls

We have a lot of hidden gems in Biliran Island that involve hiking and Bagongbong Falls is among them.

As we reached the end of the road, the sound of gushing water reached our ears.

We parked our motorcycles, gathered our belongings, and prepared for a 15-20 minute hike down the falls.

Though not concrete, the trail offered a narrow path that occasionally turned muddy and slippery in some parts.

We had to be careful wearing our sturdy slippers and taking time on the downhill hike.

Along the way, there were spots where we could stop and catch our breath, surrounded by nature’s beauty.

Seeing Bagongbong Falls for the first time

After a few minutes, we arrived at a newly constructed waiting shed, marking a brief pause before descending concrete stairs with handrails.

The breathtaking sight prompted an immediate photo session. It was a challenging feat– crossing the rocky streams while taking photos of the waterfall.

Because it was Saturday, we were sure people were already diving in the pools and enjoying the view.

We were mistaken! We thought the place got the Ulan-ulan Falls vibe.

In fact, we were the first to arrive, and we got the place solo for three hours!
